Ball, roller, and cylindrical journal bearings.- In a combined friction and antifriction bearing, a friction bearing sleeve is mounted loosely on the shaft and is provided on one side with a racering and on the other side with a Babbitt-metal lining. In a wagon axle-box, a shaft 1 carries a sleeve bearing 3 with Babbitt-metal lining 2. The sleeve 3, which is divided axially and abuts against a shoulder on the shaft, has a conical outer surface carrying the inner race-ring of the antifriction bearing 4, which is clamped in position by a sleeve 5 and screw 6. The conical surface may be replaced by a shoulder. Between the casing 7 and the outer race-ring a layer 10 of a fusible material is inserted, and packing 8, 9 is arranged between the sides 13, 14 of the casing and the friction bearing. The sleeve 3 has chambers 11, 12 for lubricant.
