Abstract

175,448. Farmer, R. Z. Nov. 29, 1920. Starting-engines. - Power-actuated reversing gear for locomotives comprises a screwed shaft 27, Fig. 3, adapted to be driven through reducing- gearing 3, 2, Fig. 2, by a. reversible electric motor M in a casing A, so that a nut member 12 is reciprocated inside a fixed casing C. The nut 12, which is kept from turning by ribs 15, is connected by a tube 11 to a lever B of the valve gear. The nut is stopped by coming upon a smooth portion 29 of the shaft 27. Lugs 30, Fig. 1, upon the casing C prevent the lever B from jamming.
