158,417. Birmingham Small Arms Co., Ltd., and Poole, H. Nov. 21, 1919. Controlling variable-speed gearing. - The gearing is operated by a revoluble shaft 12 and is controlled by a pivoted quadrant 3 having teeth 10 meshing with a pinion 11 fast on the shaft 12, and having also notches 20 engaged by a spring locking-plunger 14. The quadrant 3 has a stem 4 passing through a bush 5 in the end of the gear .case, which stem is secured to an operating-lever 6. The plunger 14, which has a rounded end for riding over the notches 20, is supported in a socket 15, which screws into a lug 13 upon the casing.
