Pianoforte actions, cases, framing, keyboards, soundboards, tuning-pins, wrestplanks, and strings, arrangement of.-In a miniature pianoforte in which the frame-plate d, strings h, and action are arranged at the rear of the instrument and below the level of the keyboard, the iron frame d is attached by screws to the wrest-plank and to wooden ledges glued to the side and lower edges of the soundboard, and the keyboard frame k is secured by two screws k<1> to the wrestplank, and carries two " jaws " supporting the action, which jaws rest on supports m on the side walls of the casing, so that the keyboard together with the action can be drawn out at the rear of the instrument. The tuning-pins i, which are longer than usual, project through the wrest-plank a and frame. d, the strings, of which there are one for each tone, being attached to the rear ends of the pins and the front ends of the pins, situated directly below the keyboard, being squared to receive the tuning-key. The soundboard b, which forms the front of the casing, is fixed under the wrest-plank a, which has a veneer of beechwood on each side. The keys actuate the action by wires o adjustable by nuts o<1>.
