Abstract

174,139. Pearson, F. Oct. 8, 1920. Chucks.-Reamers, taps, boring-tools, &c. are mounted on or are integral with a member 10, which is driven from the machine spindle by means of two univerversal joints and an intermediate shaft 1<a> in order to be self-aligning. The connection between the shafts 10, 1<a> consists of balls 6a, Fig. 5, resting in longitudinal holes drilled partly in the headed end of the sha.ft 10 and partly in the shell 2a screwed to the shaft 1<a> by means of an intermediate bush 8. The connection to the machine spindle is made similarly, a screw plug 7 being used to retain the balls 6. Clearances are provided for the shafts.
