Abstract

173,847. Dunsford, F. T. Oct. 5, 1920. Preserving.-Meat is preserved by superficial treatment with a detergent composition which also serves as an emulsifying-agent, such as soap solution, to which may be. added antiseptics, especially those which occure in essential oils, and their isomers, such as thymol and carvacrol. Protective colloids for maintaining the emulsion and solvents for the antiseptics may also be added. The meat may be treated at any time after slaughtering, and is preferably kept in cold storage. The composition may be applied by a spray, by a fountain brush, or as a bath. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 172,993.
