Abstract
173,635. Annand, M., (Representative of Annand, R. C.). Oct. 18, 1920. Folding paper.-Apparatus for folding book sections comprises rollers i, k for fold. ing and cutting the sections on the headline, the roller i being provided with a folding-blade i<1> and grippers h, and the roller k being provided with folding-jaws k<2>. The folding-blade is mounted between cushions i<6> in a holder i<2>, and is formed with a plain middle part i<3>, Fig. 13, preferably mounted on springs i<5>, and serrated end-parts i<4> of approximately page-width; or the blade may have a serrated middle and plain ends. The grippers h are secured to a rock-shaft h<1> operated by an arm h<2> having a roller h<3> co-operating with a stationary cam h'. The cam is secured adjustably by a screw h<10> to a support h<9> and is provided with an adjustable extension secured by a screw. The pivoted folding-jaws k<2> are closed by springs k<4> when permitted by a rocking disc k<5> which is secured to a shaft k<6> and is formed with notches for receiving rollers on the jaws. The shaft k<6> is provided with a rocking arm co-operating with a stationary cam k<9> which is secured adjustably by a screw k<12> to a support k<10> and is provided with an adjustable extension secured by a screw k<15>. In operation, the open grippers h receive the twice-folded sheet from tapes g and thereupon close and convey the sheet, the middle line coinciding with the folding-blade. When the parts are approximately in the position shown, the folding-blade co-operates with the folding-jaws to fold and perforate the sheet. Tapes l receive the sheet when it is released by the folding-jaws.
