Abstract

Regenerators.-A tubular heater for the air for combustion in steam locomotives consists of a nest or nests of tubes 5 arranged at one or both sides of the boiler-shell, and through which pass the flue gases from the smoke-box to a second funnel 8. A flared opening 10 leads the air to a tube casing 12, and the heated air passes through a branch 13 to the fire-box. A fan 14 driven by a small steam-turbine may be used to draw the air through the casing.
