Abstract

173,046. Sutton, G. W. Sept. 17, 1920. Resistance ovens. -Apparatus for drying tea &c., comprises a rotary cylinder 4 open at the ends and mounted upon a frame, and having attached to its outer surfaces electric heating-elements 6 connected to metal bands having shields 8. The currents to the heating-elements are controlled from switches 7 upon the frame and supplied through spring wipers secured to the frame and contacting with the bands. The cylinder is supplied with hot air by a fan 10 which forces cold air through the electric heater 11 into a central oscillating air duct 12 having a fiat perforated upper surface 20 provided with longitudinal plates 18 which may be heated by electric means. The tea is carried by a conveyer 22 on to a vibrating shoot 23 and passed into the cylinder wherein it is carried round by the ribs 21 and continuously dropped on to the plates 18 and finally discharged through the apertures 24. The air duct and sheet are vibrated by connecting-rods attached to the duct and shoot, and to a common eccentric 25 which is mounted upon the driving-shaft of the cylinder.
