Drawing; dies.-:1 method of laying electric wires in metallic protecting-tubes consists in forming a metallic protecting-tube from a sheet metal strip and drawing the tube over the wires simultaneously with the laying thereof. This may be effected by a device comprising a pair of tongs terminating in jaws r, s constituting a draw-plate, the tongs being also provided with a preliminary draw-plate, and with a rotatably-mounted spool f on which is wound the sheet-metal strip h. The preliminary draw-plate comprises a part i secured to the pivot pin c of the tongs, and a part 7c mounted on a hinge-pin and held in the closed position by a spring-controlled latch M. The strip h is passed through the preliminary draw-plate, shaped as shown in Fig. 4 and then with the wires t is passed through the jaws r, s, in which is inserted a single die q provided with an inward rib u for grinding the edges of the strip to be overlapped. Thereafter the closed tongs are pulley over the wires, causing the strip It to unwind from the spool and cover the wires as they are laid. A closing-device for the tongs comprises a pair of plates v pivoted about a pin w on one end of the branch a and connected by a pin x carrying an eccentric lever °, adapted on being turned to bring the branches together, thereby closing the jaws r, s.
