Turbines.-A turbine wheel to which buckets 86 are being welded, rotates in an horizontal plane on a support 83 driven by a motor 84 and gearing 85. A flexible iron or other wire 1, forming the electrode, is fed from a reel 2 over a guide 88 and through straightening-rollers to feed rollers 8, 9, Fig. 2, to which current is supplied by a brush shown in Fig. 3. The welding head is supported on a standard 80; it is counterweighted by a weight 81 and is secured by a setscrew 82 so that it may be adjusted in an horizontal plane, and set. The feed-rollers 8, 9 are also rotated by a motor through gearing 90, 91, 92, a hand-wheel 96 being provided to facilitate the starting. The roller 8 is adjusted by gearing 97, 98, 99. To adjust the electrode with respect to the work, the head may be adjusted by loosening the set-screw 100, and rotating it, the head being supported in a part 101, which is supported on a part 102; the spindle of the wheels 91, 92 passes axially through these parts, and the head may be adjusted about this axis. The welding-head is insulated bv a plate 103 and by making one of the wheels 92, 93 of an insulator. The brushes 105, 106, Fig. 3, are pressed against the rollers 8 by a spring 107, screw 108, and plate 109; they consist of carbon or composition blocks.
