Uniting by fusion.-Relates to arc welding and consists in a machine in which the electrode is fed by an electric motor and the welding-head is adjustable in two vertical planes at right-angles to one another. The framing 66 carrying the motor 11 can be adjusted in an horizontal plane by worm gear controlled by a hand-wheel 63 and can be adjusted in height by worm gear controlled by a handwheel 61. The welding-head 71 is carried by an arm 70 which can be adjusted in a vertical plane and locked to the framing 66 by bolts 73. The head can be adjusted in a second vertical plane at right-angles to the first named and locked by bolts 76 to a block 75, which can be moved along the arm 70 by a screw and hand-wheel 78. The electrode is fed to the machine from a coil over a curved guide 83, Figs. 1 and 3, and through sets of straightening-rollers, one set being shown at 85. The current is supplied to the electrode by a brush 14, and a hand-wheel 102 is provided for manipulating the feed rollers 9, 10, Fig. 2. The gear between the motor 11 and the feed-rollers 9, 10 is shown in Fig. 2, the head being adjustable about the shafts 95, 99 as described above.
