Abstract
170,720. Woods, T. Aug. 19, 1920. Thermally-actuated valves.-A safety device for lighting systems, more particularly those in which acetylene gas is used, comprises a metal bar 1 subjected to heat from the burner 3, and attached at its free end to a link 5 which is connected to the shorter arm of a lever 6 pivoted at 7. The longer arm of the lever 6 is connected by a link 8 to the lever 9 of the gas tap, the pivot 11 being adjustable in a slot. When the burner 3 is extinguished, the contraction of the bar 1 closes the gas tap, and the lever 6 is sufficiently elastic to allow the tap to be opened by hand and held open until the bar 1 becomes heated sufficiently to maintain the tap in its open position.
