Abstract

A mixture of hydrocarbon oils said to resemble petroleum is produced by distilling a mixture of Japanese acid clay and fish oils at a temperature preferably not below 500 DEG C. The product may be fractionally distilled, and the fractions purified by the usual acid and alkali treatment. Fish oils specified as suitable are herring oil, sardine oil, and salmon oil. Uncondensable gases pass off. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) shark oil or any fatty oil may be treated. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
