Abstract

170,011. Williams, H. G. Oct. 9, 1920, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Rotary cylinder apparatus.-In a combined rear-lamp and stopping-and-turning indicator for road vehicles, a green pane 20, Fig. 5, and transparent panels 17, 18, 19, bearing indications '' S, " '' R, " " L, '' are carried by corner-bars 16 projecting from a revoluble disc 15 and can be exhibited as required through an opening 44 in the fixed casing 40. The disc 15 is mounted on a sleeve 22, Fig. 4, which can be rotated by the driver by means of a Bowden wire 24 acting on a pulley 23 against the tension of a spring 25. The sleeve 22 revolves on a tube 33 which is supported by a cap 34 from an end-cover 28, which is attached by screws to the casing 40. The spring 25 is guarded by a cap 29 fixed at 30 to the disc 15, and two stops 31 on the disc co-operate with a block (not shown) on the cover 28 to limit the rotation of the disc. The tube 33 supports a lamp 39 for illuminating the panels, and the same lamp serves to illuminate both the number-plate through a transparent glass 52, and also a red glass in the tail-light-casing 51. The signals are controlled by the driver by means of the Bowden wire 24, which it attached to a lever 62 provided with a catch 64 for engaging the teeth of a ratchet-plate 69, disengagement from which can be effected by a telescopic movement of the lever into the pivoted tube 63.
