Abstract
169,650. File, G. A. Dec. 14, 1920. Multiple-furrow ploughs; gang apparatus.-In a motor plough comprising two ploughs mounted side by side behind a tractor for one - way ploughing, both the plough frames are hinged on a single rod fastened to a pulling-frame, which is pivotally connected to the tractor frame and is adapted to be adjusted in height so as to raise or lower the front ends of both ploughs simultaneously for regulating the depth of work. The bar 10 on which the plough frames are hinged is bolted to the pulling-frame, which is pivoted at the points 4. The frames are held in position on the bar 10 by adjustable collars, and the width of furrow is regulated by means of bolts 9. The pulling-frame is raised or lowered by means of screws 19, Fig. 3, geared by spur gearing to a spindle 20 provided with a hand-wheel 21 under the driver's seat. The screws are mounted in a bar bolted to the bar 2, Fig. 1, and pass through a bar 18 mounted in bearings in supports on the main tractor frame. The plough frames may be lifted separately by the power of the engine by means of cables attached to pulleys 24, Fig. 2, mounted on one or more spindles driven by chain gearing from sprocket-wheels 3 attached to the main driving sprocket-wheels of the tractor. The pulleys may be thrown into gear with the spindle by means of spring - controlled clutches 27 actuated by levers 28. When the plough has been raised sufficiently, the corresponding clutch is automatically thrown out of gear by means of a cam 33 engaging a slide 40 in contact with the lever 28. The plough is held up by a pawl 31, engaging a notched wheel 25 attached to the pulley 24. The clutch may be held out of action by a spring-controlled lever 39 engaging in a notch in the slide 40. This lifting-mechanism is mounted over the main axle of the tractor.
