June 22, 1920 Pianoforte actions. - In a repetition action for pianofortes, a counter check 15 is provided with means adapted to engage with the check 22 so that during the first part of the release movement of the key 1 after a note has been sounded, the counter check and the hammer 13 are supported by the check, thereby permitting the reengagement of the jack 10 with the hammer butt 13<a>. In the construction shown, the means provided comprise a lip 23 which rides over the check during a small initial release movement of the key, the hammer having little or no rearward movement. On the jack 10 a piece of wire 18 is adjustably fixed, one end of which 18<e> is bent at right-angles and engages with the counter check 15 when the key 1 is kept depressed, thereby preventing forward movement of the hammer. Braking means may be provided in conjunction with the hammer comprising a shoe 24 pivotally connected by an arm 25 to the hammer butt 13a and adapted to engage frictionally with a rail 26.
