Controllers, drum; actuating mechanism for.-Controllers for effecting reversal or dual control ot motors, generators, &c., are constructed so as to admit of being turned forwards and backwards, from a neutral position, through nearly a complete revolution ; the same set of strip or segmental contacts being operative in both forward and backward movement. In order tc effect this a controller A, Fig. 4 is associated with a double pushbutton switch J and a rocking two-way stop N, Fig. 8. The opening of one or other of the push-button contacts J<1>, J<2> precedes the movement of the controller, and, in the case shown, determines whether forward contactors 16 or reversing contactors 17 are to be closed. The movement of the controller in the chosen direction then brings about a sequence of changes in the circuits of the armature 1 and the shunt field 13 of a compound motor, whereby it progressively works up to full speed, the same set of segmental or strip contactors K to K<6> being employed for forward as for backward rotation. Single or double contrcller fingers are used. The engagement of a plate R with one or other of the prongs of the stop N arrests the turning movement of the drum after the designed angle. The Specification describes a modification in which the invention is applied to controlling a main motor by means of an auxiliary motor and a booster.
