Abstract

168,229. Tozer, C. W. July 30, 1920. Retorts for the distillation of coal &c. are constructed with vertical chambers c less in length than the hot zone of the furnace and having perforations d to equalize the pressure throughout the chambers. The lower end of the retort is conical and in the outer wall has a seating e on which fits a false bottom f leaving a space h by which gases pass to a central tube b. The false bottom is connected by a neck to a door j which is secured to the bottom of the retort. Vertical gills k or helical ribs are formed on the outside of the retort casing. Specification 20158/09 is referred to.
