Abstract

167,391. Johnson, J. Y., (United States Chain & Forging Co.). Aug. 4, 1920. Welding chains, hoops, and rings.-In an electric welding machine, for chain links &c., the link x to be welded is pressed against the shaped electrodes 27 by an adjustable holder 41 carried by a slide 40, Fig. 4, actuated by a cam 49 through the mechanism shown. The electrodes are adjustably secured in holders 23 carried by, but insulated from, levers 14 which are separated by cams 16, and pulled together to effect a weld by a spring 18. The holders 23 have lugs 33 to which are bolted flexible connections 34 with the secondary of a transformer. Forging chains.-After the weld has been effected the end of the link is shaped by vertically moving dies 56, 57 actuated by cams through levers 60, 61. All the cams are carried by a single shaft which is driven by a one-revolution clutch 6.
