Abstract

166,064. Johnson, J. Y., (United States Chain & Forging Co.). Sept. 24, 1920. Making chains; bending-formers.-Rod or wire blanks are bent round a former in two stages. The former 8 is capable of vertical movement and has operative parts 10, 11 of different size. The blank is first clamped, by a slide, against the larger part 10, and the slide 4 carrying the bending devices is then moved to the right. As the cams 16 on the levers 14 pass the fixed rollers 5, the rollers 17 bend the blank to the form shown in Fig. 4. Further movement of the slide causes the rollers 18 to complete the link, as shown in Fig. 5, round the smaller part 11 of the former, which is raised between the movements of the slide. The various movements are effected by cams &c. in any well-known way.
