Abstract
166,874. Schneider et Cie. July 21, 1920, [Convention date]. Field carriages.-Relates to carriages having divided trail beams E, Fig. 7, pivoted to a gun support A which is fixed to or slidable on the wheel axle B, the beams being connected by linkage to ensure equal pivotal movements in opposite directions and thereby permit the anchoring devices to adapt themselves to uneven ground. The invention consists in pivoting the beams on an axis F disposed parallel to and rearward of the wheel axle, so that the anchoring-devices rise and fall in planes at right-angles to the axle. Fig. 8 shows the simplest construction in which the beams E pivoting on the axis F are connected by links K, K<1> to cranks J, J<1> arranged 180‹ apart on a shaft I. Fig. 4 shows a modification having folding beams E, the front portions of which pivot on the shaft F at the centre of which is mounted an elevating opinion M which during training- turns on a vertical pivot L concentric with train ing arc A<1>, A<2>. Fig. 7 shows in plan a modification in which the shaft I is formed as a sleeve on the wheel axle, the elevating pinion M being carried by a bracket N movable for training round a. toothed are formed on the support A concentrically with the vertical pivot G' of the gun. The shaft F may be made hollow to accommodate the shaft of the wheel brakes. In place of the crank and connecting-rod mechanism for ensuring equal movements of the beams, chain-and-sprocket gear or an hydraulic transmission device may be employed. The pivots F may be sliding ball-andsocket joints, Fig. 18, to permit of spreading the beams, or the joints F may be fixed, Fig. 16, the front ends of the beams being disconnected from the chain-and-sprocket gear Q and connected to the wheel-axle by pins T when the beams are folded together.
