Abstract

Turbines ; wheels.-Turbine-discs and wheels are made from gun-metal, wrought iron, cast or wrought steel &c. by extruding in successive steps. A billet h is forced by a plunger d between die members a, e to form a disc g; then the die e is advanced to reduce the extrusion opening and the extrusion completed. The die e is clamped during extrusion. and both dies may be actuated hydraulically, and may have discs f to guide the rim g. The work may be heated before the first, or both stens and the first step may be limited by a ring which is removed before the second step. The work mav be finally rolled, machined &c. to the required shape.
