Abstract

1275206 Making earth cutting teeth; forging F RAMELLA 17 April 1970 [7 Jan 1970] 18523/70 Headings B3A and B3H [Also in Division E1] A tooth for an earth moving machine is made by placing a plate 6 in a slot in a prismatic billet, hammer forging the billet to an intermediate shape 1<SP>11</SP>, replacing the plate by a shaped core 6<SP>1</SP> and drop forging the billet in a die set 7, 8 to the final shape of the tooth. The billet is steel and is heat treated after forging. The die set has a projection 7a to align the dies. The core 6<SP>1</SP> is held in position by keyways and removed laterally from the tooth after forging. The forging steps are performed on a hot billet.
