166,282. Kennedy, C. J. H. Mackenzie-, and Smith, W. J. May 6,1918. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Dropping bombs and other articles from a height; laying mines.-Relates to apparatus for dropping, as from aircraft, a number of bombs, explosive mines, postal packages, or other bodies, and consists in providing at one or more points means for giving an indication of the number of bombs dropped or still held. As shown, the bombs are held up by hinged arms 1, 1, Fig. 1, as described in Specification 166,187, controlled by a selector gear operated by one or more handles 17, as described in Specification 166,281. Associated with one or more of these handles is an indicator comprising a figured drum 25, Figs. 2, 3 and 4, mounted frictionally on a boss 26 provided with a toothed rim 26a operated step-by-step by a pawl 27 on the handle 17. The pawl has a pin 27a which is controlled by a spring 29 and rides on a cam 28 to ensure that the indicator shall move one step only for each complete stroke of the handle. Stops 31, 32 limit the stroke of the handle; and a spring pawl 30 prevents backward rotation of the indicator. The frictionally mounted figured drum is made with a knurled rim to permit it to be set initially to any desired number.
