Abstract
577,131. Projecting bombs from aircraft. DOBREMYSL, J. Nov. 6, 1939, No. 9441. [Classes 9 (ii) and 92 (ii)] Apparatus carried by aircraft for projecting a screen of parachute-suspended bombs 1 into the path of enemy aircraft, comprises a succession of bomb-containing sleeves 2 which serve as tubes for projecting the bombs, the sleeves being accommodated in links 4 of a belt passing over a sprocket drum 5 which co-operates with a multiple percussion device for firing a number of bombs. In the form shown, the drum is rotated by a cable 14 through a ratchet 12 and positions three sleeves with their propellant cartridges 16 in register with a main firing pin 17 and supplementary firing pins 18, 19 connected to the main pin. The main pin is cocked by cams 22 on the drum into engagement with a gear 24 released by an electromagnet 25. The drum is retained in the firing position by catches 30. An arcuate casing 7 serves to guide and support the cartridges.
