Paper-supports.-(i) A platen roller comprises one or more layers or convolutions a of soft metal such as lead foil or thin sheet lead, which may be interleaved with one or more layers or convolutions b of cloth, paper, or the like. The foil may be formed on one or both sides with projections c or ribs. A suitable covering may be applied. (ii) To facilitate the feeding of bound or folded papers, a platen roller, which may be constructed in the above-described manner, is formed at or near both ends with a reduced part or an annular grove for receiving the bound or folded part of the papers. The annular grooves e may be of the shape shown in Fig. 2, or may be curved. The platen rollers may be increased in length to accommodate the reduced parts or grooves.
