Abstract
165,427. Casablancas, F. June 26, 1920. Rollers and roller heads; combined drawing and twisting arrangements.-The feeding-devices for drawing-mechanism for textile rovings are arranged so as to convey the roving up to a point which is distant from the nip of the drawing-rollers less than the mean length of the fibres and are also rotated to impart or remove twist from the roving. Two drawing-mechanisms may be arranged to treat the fibre successively, the twist being imparted between the drawings. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the feeding devices, which comprise endless belts 31, 32, driven by rollers 25, 26, of which one may be provided with saw teeth, are rotatably mounted in a support 11 on a bar 10 close to the drawing-rollers 8, 9, and an initial drawing is effected by a drawing mechanism of ordinary construction. The feeding-device is mounted on a hoop 19 secured by bayonet pins to a ring 16 rotated by a worm 18, and the rollers are driven to advance the belts by teeth on a funnel-shaped ring 13 rotated by a worm 15. The belts are guided by side-plates 42 and the rollers 25, 26 are pressed by springs 20, 21. The bar 10 is reciprocated in unison with the roving-guide 57. Several arrangements of known kind of feeding-devices are described, comprising a single lower belt with which a spring- pressed roller or plate co-operate; two co-operating belts which may be taut or flexible or may be guided so as to diverge near the nip of the drawing rollers; a single upper belt co-operating with a fixed plate, or with a roller driven at speed equal to or slightly greater than that of the belt, and guided by an external spindle and plate; or two co-operating rollers which may be lightly pressed together, or arranged so as not to touch each other, so that the fibres may slip.
