Abstract

164,336. Mercier, H. June 3, 1920, [Convention date]. Addition to 7471/15. Springs, arrangement of; guiding vertical play. - Consists of improvements in the apparatus described in the parent Specification with the objects of reducing the stresses during rolling, and of reducing the effects of rolling by cancellation or reversing. The lower parts 4, 5, Fig. 1, of the suspensions are attached to the axle, while the upper parts 6, 7 are connected to the body by shackles 10 and auxiliary lateral sitspensions as described in the parent Specification, comprises a guide 11 and a jointed parallelogram. Centrifugal force during rolling is counteracted by the reactions of the suspensions and by reaction due to the inclination of the shackles. The jointed parallelogram may be replaced by a guide 37, Fig. 3, in which run two rollers 38 on a part 39 secured to a socket 40 through which passes a rod 41 attached to the body which rests on the suspensions parts 6, 7 by means of circular tracks 42, 43 and rollers 44, 45. The device 11 may be controlled by the combined action of a centrifugal or other relay and a servo-motor, through a toothed quadrant 13, Figs. 4 and 6, secured to the guide 11 and pivoted at 12. The quadrant 13 gears with a shaft 15 which rotates and moves ,endwise in a screwed bearing 17 and which carries claw members 28, 29 adapted to be engaged by claws on sliding sleeves 22, 27, of which the sleeve 22 is driven from the engine or other motor through a fixed wheel 21 and chain gearing, the sleeve 27 being conected thereto through a reversing-gear 23, 24, 25. A roller 32 on an arm 33 connected to a spring-controlled pendulum 30 moves the gears when the pendulum is operated by centrifugal force during rolling, to engage the shaft at one end or the other. The shaft disengages itself by its endwise movement, the frame remaining in the stabilizing inclined position until opposite movement of the pendulum engages the other claw on the shaft to restore the frame to the central position. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also describes an apparatus in which the stabilizing device is replaced by shackles which force the body to pivot about a point above its centre of gravitv. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
