Abstract

164,214. Poole, H. J., and Beddington, C. April 29, 1920. Preserving food.- A tin or like container is evacuated through a pinhole which is afterwards closed by a disc, pre. ferably of impervious paper, which is held by the suction in position to be automatically placed over the pinhole imme diately suction ceases. For this purpose, the suctior takes place through a nozzle a providec. with a packing-ring b which can be held against the surface of the tin. The nozzle contains a spring-plunger e, bored longitudinally, which is held away from the surface of the tin by the suction, but pressed against it by the spring on the suction ceasing. The paper disc f is held against the end of the plunger by the suction. A guide may be provided to secure that the plunger e shall come over the pinhole. The disc f may be held in place and made air-tight with shellac, varnish or the like.
