Abstract
164,190. Calthrop, E. R. March 26, 1920. Parachutes. - T h e positive opening of the mouth of a parachute is ensured by the formation of a plurality of pockets 8 arranged round its periphery and normally retained by attaching the peripheral webbing 2 to a seam 3 by resilient or rupturable members 6. The resilient members may be of rubber encased in sleeves 9. Two parallel resilient members may be used for each pocket and they may be attached to the junctions of the seams 3, 4. In a further modification, the resilient members are arranged horizontally and the sleeve 9 is then of concertina construction. When the load is released, the resilient members will contract and assist in expelling the high pressure air within the parachute body.
