559,127. Buoyant body attachment. STRAITS, L. A. Nov. 2, 1942, No. 15427. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Feb. 17, 1943.] [Class 77] A life preserver of the jacket or belt type comprises a back panel 12 and extension panels 16 filled with flotation material such as cork, cellular rubber, kapok, balsa wood, &c. connected by panels 17, and a harness consisting of shoulder straps 11 and body straps 13 connected to the back panel. For normal wear the panels 16 are secured to the back panel, by snap fasteners 20, 21 but in an emergency the panels 16 can be quickly detached and led across the front of the body in overlapping relation by straps 22, 23. If not detached before entering the water the shock of striking the water will usually separate the snap fasteners. The straps 13 are each fitted with a snap ring 14 at one end and a snap buckle 15 at the other.. In another construction the flotation back and extension panels are attached to a vest having a collar fitting over the wearer's neck. In a third construction the flotation and extension panels are inflatable either through mouthpieces or by means of compressed gas cartridges.
