Abstract

164,141. Stott, Sir P. S., and Whittaker, J. March 4, 1920. Shuttles, changing bobbins and other weftcarriers in, automatically. -The weft-ends are attached to individual weftholders, each comprising a body part 8 and wires 9, 10, or a single wire, fitting through a slot 13 in a vertical guide 1, which may be the guide for the cop-skewer tips 4. At the moment of transfer, the lowest weftholder occupies a position approximately in line with the shuttle-box, is released from the guide 1 by an escapement mechanism 19, 20, and falls in front of the shuttle box front plate into a receptacle, so that the weftthread carried by the holder engages a strip of carding-cloth or other weftretaining device, such as a pin or row of pins, and is thereby held in proper position for threading the shuttle. When the cop is transferred, the skewer-tip thereof is forced past a retaining-spring 6 at the bottom of a vertical slot 3 leading to an inclined slot 5, or the spring may be moved aside positively. The device may be used with magazines of types other than that shown. In a modification described in the Provisional Specification, the escapement is omitted.
