163,937. Tavroges, J., Roche, J. W., and Martin, G. July 22, 1920. Lactose is purified by treatment with sulphur dioxide, a sulphite, a hydrosulphite, or a mixture thereof. The crude lactose is dissolved in water, the purifying agent added, and the mixture heated to 80‹ C. and filtered.
