Opening by cutting.-A tin-opener for use with tins having an outer lever lid and an inner hermetically sealed lining, or having a single cover with a folded joint forming a bead around the edge, is made to cut a perfectly smooth circular hole with its edge turned downwardly and outwardly, adapted to receive a press-in lid. It consists of a sliding handle a of channel-bar formation embodying the blade b, which is adjustable on a bar d cranked at the inner end e, and screwed to it by means of a clip r or a thumb screw. The blade b has one or more conicalshaped grooves c<1>, c<2> with corresponding notches x<1>, x<2> in the cutting edge. The sides of the holder a at the blade end are extended and bent over to form two lugs f<2> for the sliding bar d to slide under, and two rectangular tongues o<2> are. pressed out to act as guides when opening a single cover canister. The sliding bar can be dispensed with in openers for tins of fixed sizes.
