Abstract

162,635. Henkels, A. & E. April 26, 1920, [Convention date]. Braiding-machines.-To avoid the use of auxiliary threads to hold the web together during the drawing-off operation, which threads are subsequently cut out of the fabric and wasted, the braiding-threads are laid in places over fine springy steel wire d which extend from pillars b mounted on the centre plates a, to the braiding point, and are bent up as shown so that the free upper ends lie parallel to the mandrel k. Each wire d is mounted on a sleeve e which lies on the top of the pillar b when in action. The wires d and pillars b are provided only on the plates corresponding to the places where auxiliary threads would otherwise be required. On receiving thread crossings the corresponding wires are pushed up by rods h working inside the pillars under control of the pattern gear and are held above the bobbin threads on the overhanging arched end of a pillar c by a spring catch f. An inoperative wire is brought into operative position by a lever g acting under pattern control.
