Chimney tops.-A chimney cowl, of the type having a cap supported by stays above a flange surrounding the top of the shaft, is so constructed that air currents, approaching from any direction, strike a curved surface by which they are deflected away from the chimney, thus inducing an up-draught. The cap C, which is hollowed out on the underside, and the flange A are formed, as shown in Fig. 2, with their outer surfaces alternately convex and concave, while the stays D supporting the cap are of stream-lined cross-section with the feather edge F facing inwards.
