Abstract

Vapour - engines. - Gas or vapour generated by heating one or more of the polychloro derivatives of ethylene or chloro-benzene is used, with or without air, in an engine of any ordinary construction. Preferably trichlorcethylene is used. The vapour may be generated in an ordinary boiler or may be generated in the engine-cylinder by contact with a hot tube, or by mixing the liquid with the exhaust gases from an internalcombustion engine, or by heat supplied to the cylinder-head by a, flame or by a hot jacket. In the arrangement shown, the gas or vapour is generated in an ordinary boiler A and the exhaust passes from the engine through an expansion chamber E to a condenser G through which a cooling liquid is circulated by pipes R, S. Oil is separated from the liquid in a vessel M and the liquid is collected in a tank O from which a pump Q feed it to the boiler. The boiler is fitted with a safety-valve, the escaping vapour being led through pipes K, H to the condenser. According to the Provisional Specification, vapour of ethane, or carbon tetra-chloride may be used. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 8525/93, 8592/93, 21127/12, and 15312/14.
