Abstract

161,427. Hamilton, T. S. March 20, 1920. By lubricants other than grease and oil; by solid lubricant.-A lubricating-strip 11 for leaf springs comprises a strip of fibrous material having an adhesive coating on one side and a coating of lubricating-composition on the other side composed of powdered graphite, mica, or soapstone mixed with a binder such as shellac, silicate of soda, varnish, glue, &c. The lubricating-composition may be applied to the strip in a series of coatings, finishing with a layer of flake graphite which permeates the preceding layers and combines them into a homogeneous mass. The foundation strip may be recessed for the reception of the lubricant. Two strips may be placed between each leaf 10, with the faces carrying the lubricant together.
