Driving-gear for endless-chain conveyers.-In apparatus for rapid tanning of hides &c. by subjecting one side to the liquid under pressure and the other side to a vacuum, as set forth in the parent Specification, the hides are carried on conveyer chains and are transferred from one tanning position to the next with gradual acceleration and retardation of movement. For this purpose the conveyer chains 203 are operated by driving gear comprising a crank shaft 208 driving a slider 200 connected to a pivoted toothed segment 210 engaging a ratchet gear 211 on a shaft 212 carrying a resiliently driven conveyer drum 213. The crank-shaft 208 is thrown in or out of action by a lever 214 with a tooth 215 engaging a notched disc 217 on the conveyer shaft to bring the device automatically and positively to a standstill on completion of a revolution. A screw and nut connection 210<a>, 210b, between the slider and the rocking segment 210 provides for adjustment of the movement.
