Abstract
160,323. Slaby, R. Jan. 14, 1920. Axle-guides.-Relates to a cross spring arrangement, in which the axles of motor-vehicles are mounted in guides rigidly attached to the frame, and are inserted therein from below. In the form shown in Fig. 1, side thrusts are taken up by intermediate sleeve pieces g on the axles. The sleeve pieces are provided at each end with a collar shaped so that the axles may tilt freely out of the horizontal without play between the sleevepieces and guides b. When the frame is of wood, opposite guides may be rigidly connected by struts, or they may form one common casting or forging, to prevent any guide movement which might set up play. Cross springs l are connected to the axles at the centre by means of stirrups, and each of their ends pass between two bolts screwed to the guide. In another construction shown in Figs. 7 and 8 the axle o consists of an I-sbaped drop forging, bronze guide-blocks p being contained in recesses formed in the axle near the ends. The guide-blocks form the bearing on the guides, and are pressed outwards against the guides by springs contained between the blocks and passing through the axle. In this case side projections on the guide-blocks take up the side thrust, and are shaped to allow the axle to tilt freely without play.
