Abstract
A cosmetic stick which is of simple structure, i.e. is assembled from a small number of components, and has a body (5) which is easy to spread, can be slid out by rotating a screwed part (2) with respect to a handle part (1) and is put into the screwed part which can be screwed onto a ram (3) which is fastened in the interior of the handle part preferably by means of a press fit at its inner end. <IMAGE>
Description
(54) A PROPELLING HOLDER CONTAINING A
COSMETIC STICK
(71) I, PETER WECKERLE, a German
Citizen of Otto-Hahn Strasse 12, 8123
Peissenberg, Western Germany, do hereby declare the invention, for which I, pray that a patent may be granted to rne, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- This invention concerns propelling holders containing cosmetic sticks of spreadable material, for example lipsticks.
According to the present invention there is provided a propelling holder containing a cosmetic stick of spreadable material and comprising an outer casing, a screw member in the form of a sleeve, into which the stick has been filled, in sliding engagement with the casing and a ram having one end fixedly connected within an end portion of the casing and having its other end engaging the stick, mutual rotation of the outer casing and ram relative to the screw member being effective to cause the stick increasingly to protrude from the screw member for use.
The production of the holder in accordance with the invention can be further simplified as follows:- by the ram being provided with a male
thread and the screw member with a
female thread;
by the ram being fixed to the outer casing
by being a force-fit at its inner end in
the outer casing;
by the ram taking the form of a hollow
part closed at its outer end;
and by the screw member being provided,
adjacent its end inserted into the outer
casing, with individual screw guide
pieces projecting inwardly.
All the parts may be produced by injection moulding from plastics material, preferably polystyrene. For the ram a softer plastics material for instance polythene, will also be suitable. This facilitates the realisation of the force fit for fixing it inside the outer casing.
One form which the invention may take is described below by way of example with the aid of the accompanying drawings. In these:
Fig. 1 is a longitudinal section through a propelling holder according to the present invention in its fully assembled condition and comprising a screw member, an outer casing, a ram, a cap and a cosmetic stick
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the screw member;
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the outer casing;
Fig. 4 is a cross section on the line IV-W of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 shows the ram.
In accordance with Fig. 1, the propelling holder consists of the following components, namely: outer casing 1, screw member 2; ram 3; and cap 4. The cosmetic stick for example a lipstick, which has a conical tip 6, has been filled into the screw member 2 in engagement therewith. The ram is provided with a male thread 7 over its whole length, though it is only partially shown on the drawing; this should for preference be of square cross section. With this male thread 7 screw guide-pieces 8 (see Fig.
2) projecting on the inside of the screw member 2 engage. The distance between the projecting screw guide-pieces 8 and the adjacent end of the screw member 2 acts as a guide for centering, facilitating assembly of the screw member 2 inside the outer casing 1 by making it easy to start the thread on the ram 3. By turning the screw member 2 the outer, projecting, end 9 of the ram 3 enters further and further into the inside of the screw member 2 and thus pushes the stick further and further out of the other end of the screw member 2.
The ram 3 is provided, at its inner end in relation to the outer casing 1, with a collar 10, which is deformed when it is forced into the outer casing 1. When this is done fins 11 projecting inwards from the inner surface of the outer casing 1, press into the collar 10 and cause the ram to be firmly secured in the outer casing. When the pencil is not in use the cap 4 is simply placed over the recess 12 on the outer casing 1.
WHAT I CLAIM IS:
1. A propelling holder containing a cosmetic stick of spreadable material and comprising an outer casing, a screw member in the form of a sleeve, into which the stick has been filled, in sliding engagement with the casing, and a ram having one end fixedly connected within an end portion of the casing and having its other end engaging the stick, mutual rotation of the outer casing and ram relative to the screw member being effective to cause the stick increasingly to protrude from the screw member for use.
2. A propelling holder as claimed in claim 1, in which the ram has a male thread and the screw member has a complementary female part.
3. A propelling holder as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, in which the outer casing consists of a hollow cylindrical body closed at one end.
4. A propelling holder as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which the ram is fixed within the outer casing by virtue of a force fit of one of its ends in said end portion of the casing.
5. A propelling holder as claimed in claim 4, in which the ram is in the form of a hollow member closed at its other end.
6. A propelling holder as claimed in claim 4 or claim 5, in which the ram is provided at said one end with a collar of enlarged diameter to contribute to the force fit with the outer casing.
7. A propelling holder as claimed in any one of claims 4 to 6, in which the outer casing is provided with inwardly projecting internal fins to contribute to the force fit with the ram.
8. A propelling holder as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which the screw member is in the form of a hollow cylindrical body, open at both ends, its outside diameter being such as to give a close sliding fit within a corresponding hollow part of the outer casing.
9. A propelling holder as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which the screw member is provided, adjacent one of its ends carried within the outer casing, with internal disconnected screw thread portions.
10. A propelling holder as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, in which the outer casing has a reduced diameter end for receiving a closure cap.
11. A propelling holder containing a cosmetic stick as claimed in claim 1 and substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
12. A propelling holder as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the cosmetic stick is a lipstick.
