Reels and winches, rod.-A fishing-reel comprises a cage 1, provided with a slotted tubular spindle 2, carrying a drum 3 and containing an internally-screwed nut 5, having projections 6 engaging slots 4 in the spindle. A coiled spring 8 is disposed between the nut 5 and a flange 7 on the spindle. A screw bolt 9 engages the nut 5 so that this is moved axially, on turning the bolt, to compress the spring and cause the head 10 of the bolt, or a washer 11 connected to the head by means of screws 12 engaging a flange 13 to bear against and exert a braking effect on the face of the drum.
