Description

(54) PRODUCTION OF TOY BUILDING BLOCKS (71) We, THOMAS SALTER LIMITED, a British company of Woodside Road, Glenrothes, Fife, Scotland, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:- This invention relates to toy building blocks or bricks.
An object of the invention is to provide an apparatus for and a method of producing toy building blocks or bricks which is simple for use by a child.
According to the invention, there is provided a mould for making toy building blocks or bricks, the said mould being of flexible rubber or rubber like material and having a plurality of mould cavities at least some of which have teeth along at least one side.
The invention also provides a method of moulding toy building blocks or bricks comprising the steps of providing a mould tray of flexible rubber or rubber-like material with a plurality of mould cavities at least some which have teeth along at least one side, placing mould able material in the mould cavities and allowing the material to set, and removing the moulded articles from the cavities after the mouldable material has set.
The accompanying drawing is a plan view of a mould according to this invention.
In the illustrated embodiment of the invention, toy building blocks or bricks are produced in tray-like flexible moulds of rubber-like plastics material. The mould has a plurality of mould cavities or female moulds 2 mould surfaces 3 of which are patterned so that moulded articles produced in the mould will have a surface which simulates stone, bricks or roof tiling or any other desired building element.
At least some of these mould cavities 2 have teeth 4 along at least one side edge.
Mouldable material such as plaster of Paris can be placed in the mould cavities 2 and allowed to set. After setting, the moulded articles can be removed from the mould and can be used as building blocks from which toy houses, churches, castles, or other desired articles can be assembled.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. A mould for making toy building blocks or bricks, the said mould being of flexible rubber or rubber like material and having a plurality of mould cavities at least some of which have teeth along at least one side.
2. A method of moulding toy building blocks or bricks comprising the steps of providing a mould tray of flexible rubber or rubber-like material with a plurality of mould cavities at least some of which have teeth along at least one side, placing mouldable material in the mould cavities and allowing the material to set, and removing the moulded articles from the cavities after the mouldable material has set.
3. A mould for moulding toy building blocks or bricks substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
