Abstract

158,962. Bishop, G. A., and Chadwick, R. A. Nov. 7, 1919. Motor fore-carriages for road vehicles; motors and gear-boxes, supporting.-A fore-carriage for an electrically-driven road-vehicle comprises a ring p<2> rotatable on ball-bearings q within a ring p secured to the chassis, a pair of laminated springs 2 secured at their centres to the front portion of the rotable ring, and by links 3, at their ends, to torque bars 5, and a bracket 12 carried by the bars 5 and through which passes a torque pillar 13 connected to the ring p<2> and carrying compensating springs 16, 17. The torque-bars are carried on bearings formed on the gear-casing 8 supported by the front axle. Steering is effected by a rod 6, through a worm w meshing with a worm-wheel x on the rotatable ring. Two electric motors are carried on the front axle, only one n being shown, by brackets 21 and on the cross members 9, 9' by brackets 23 and compensating- springs 26, 28. Each front road-wheel is driven from its corresponding motor through reduction gearing comprising gear-wheels 30, 32, and 34 which latter meshes with an internal spur-wheel 35, on the road-wheel.
