Description

(54) REED PLATE WITH INSERTED REED PINS FOR TUTTING MACHINE (71) I, KARL-HEINZ ZIESENISS, a German citizen, of 6430 Bad Hersfeld, Germany, do hereby declare the invention, for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: The present invention relates to a reed plate with inserted reed pins for a tufting machine.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a reed plate in which it is possible to replace individual reed pins with little loss of time and in a simple manner.
Embodiments of the reed plate of the present invention will now be described by reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a diagrammatic perspective view of the reed plate in a disassembled condition; and Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic plan view of a modification of the reed pins and base plate of Fig. 1.
Referring to Fig. 1, a pressure plate 2 is fixed by set screws 1 to a base plate 3, the pressure plate being formed with open grooves 5 (only two open grooves 5 are shown) and being only partly shown in Fig.
1. Inserted into the open grooves 5 are rectangular reed pins 4, which are of rectangular cross-section; they are merely held therein by a clamping action. A shoulder on the base plate 3 prevents the pins 4 sliding rearwardly at the time of fitting.
In order to replace individual reed pins 4, it is only necessary to loosen the set screws 1 and then the said pins 4 may be easily withdrawn from the open grooves.
The embodiment shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings is generally similar to that of Fig.
1; hence like parts are similarly designated, but the inner ends 4A of the reed pins 4 are bent at right angles to the general direction in which the pins 4 extend, to lie within a transverse groove 6 formed in the base plate 3 and connecting together the open grooves 5, which are in this embodiment formed in the base plate 3. By this device a pin 4 is prevented from gradually moving out of the open groove 5 in which it is retained, if for any reason the pressure plate is no longer exerting an adequate clamping effect.
It is thus possible, according to this invention, to form the open grooves 5 for the pins in the base plate, instead of in the pressure plate or plates. Where a groove 6 is provided it would normally be in the same plate or plates as the open grooves 5, although it would be possible to have the open grooves in one plate or plates and the groove in the opposite plate or plates.
WHAT I CLAIM IS:- 1. A reed plate with inserted reed pins for a tufting machine which comprises a base plate and at least one pressure plate releasably secured to the base plate, wherein one of said plates is formed with open grooves for reed pins which are removably held therein by the other of said plates.
2. A reed plate according to claim 1, wherein the inner ends of the reed pins are substantially at right-angles to their lengths and lie in a groove connecting the inner ends of the open grooves.
3. A reed plate according to claim 1, wherein the open grooves are formed in the base plate.
4. A reed plate according to claims 2 and 3, wherein the said groove is formed in the base plate.
5. A reed plate according to claim 1, wherein the open grooves are formed in the pressure plate or plates.
6. A reed plate according to claims 2 and 5, wherein the said groove is formed in the pressure plate or plates.
7. A reed plate according to claim 1, substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
8. A reed plate according to claim 5, substantially as herein described.
