Abstract

158,077. Winsall, A. W., and Williams, C. K. Oct. 27, 1919. Wheels.-A grinding or polishing wheel, in which the abrasive covering is of tubular form and is detachably mounted on the wheel, comprises three segmental portions formed by radially dividing the wheel D at f and provided with a tapered bore adapted to fit the tapered spindle b, the segments being expanded to grip the abrasive cover x by screwing up the nut c. In order to limit the expansion, and to prevent the segments from falling asunder when removed from the shaft, the segments are formed at their end faces with recesses d in which are placed rings e retained in position by screws g, In a modification, the segments are mounted on a tapered boss carried by the spindle and formed with a screwed part adapted to receive a nut for expanding the segments. The outer surface of the wheel may be covered with a permanent layer of yielding material.
