Abstract

157,379. Volmer, M. Nov. 12, 1919, [Convention date]. Coating non-metallic surfaces with metals.- Non-metallic material is first provided by any known method with a thin coating of another metal e.g. silver, which acts as a seed-film for the deposition by a chemical reduction process of a copper coating. The invention is applied to the making of copper mirrors, a smooth transparent support e.g. glass, being first brought into contact with a silvering liquid to produce a non- reflecting slightly visible deposit and then coated with copper.
