Abstract

157,280. Candy Filter Co., Ltd., (Schreier, A.). Jan. 10, 1921. Sterilizing and preserving liquids such as milk, water, or fruit juice.-The liquid is brought into contact with a coating or film of silver, gold, or copper. Grains of quartz, glass, pumicestone, .&c. may be treated in the manner usual in producing silvered mirrors, for example, with a silver solution and a reducing agent, such as sugar or formaldehyde, with or without ammonia or an alkali. The liquid may be filtered through a bed of such grains or agitated with them. Treated sand may be used in combination with ordinary filtering-sand. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) mentions also the use of films of platinum. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
