Description

(54) A DRIVE SYSTEM FOR A MULTI-UNIT PRINTING MACHINE (71) We, VEB POLYGRAPH LEIPZIG KOMBINAT FÜR POLYGRAPH3:SCHE MASCEIINEN UND AUSRiiSTUNGEN of 705 Leipzig, Zeinaundorfer Strasse 59, German Democratic Republic, a corporation organised under the laws of the German Democratic Republic, a corporation organised under the laws of the German Democratic Republic do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: The present invention relates to a printing machine comprising a plurality of printing mechanisms.
Printing machines are known which are provided with drives having fractional transmission ratios ("Die Tragfähigkeit der Zahnrlider", Thomas, C. Hanser Verlag, Munich 1957 page 49 and Dubbels Taschenbuch für den Maschinenbau, Berlin, Heidelberg, New York 1974, page 779 G.c.).
A disadvantage of using fractional transmission ratios in printing machine drives is that the maintenance of registration is unfavourably influenced by low-frequency oscillations and unevennesses of the prints among one another occurs.
Fractional transmission ratios cause a variation of the phase position of the oscillations to the machine cycle which bring about different sheet transfers in the transfer point between printing cylinder and the succeeding cylinder and which lead to print ing disturbances (doubling).
According to the present invention there is provided a printing machine comprising a plurality of printing mechanisms each connected by a respective gear train to a common main shaft, the gear ratio between mutually meshing gear members of each gear train being an integer.
Each gear train may comprise a spur gear fixed to the main shaft. Each gear train may comprise an input spur gear to provide an input to its respective printing machine.
The common main shaft may be coupled to a drive motor and the gear ratios of mutually meshing gear members or individual transmission stages from the drive motor to the gear members fixed to the common main shaft may be an integer.
The printing mechanisms may be driven centralized or decentralized.
An embodiment of the present invention will be more particularly described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawing.
Referring now to the drawing, there is shown a drive of a multi-colour rotary sheet printing machine comprising a first 1, a second 2 and a third printing mechanism 3.
Power is supplied from a drive (not shown) by way of transmission means 4 to a main drive shaft 5. The shaft 5 is connected to each printing mechanism by a respective gear train comprising a first spur gear 7 arranged on the shaft 5 and meshing with a second spur gear 8 arranged on a worm wheel 9. The worm wheel 9 carries a worm 10 meshing with a worm wheel 11 which is connected to an input spur gear 12.
For the gear train associated with the first printing mechanism the gear ratio between the second spur gear 8.I. and the first spur gear 7.I, is two. The gear ratio between the worm wheel 11.I and the worm 10.I is eight.
It is an advantage of the above described embodiment that doubling is largely avoided and the maintenance of registration of the printings is favourable. The above embodiment oscillation generated through spur gear eccentricities and tooth impacts which are not repeated in the machine cycle and thereby prevents faulty sheet transfers, such as register errors and doubling.
